Tales from the unexpected
The historical essence of this place envelops you, with old-world charm and amazing mountain views. Our spacious room was a good blend of comfort and character. The staff were attentive, elevating our stay. While the dinner menu was limited, the quality of food was really good. A location that allows easy walking access to nearby shrines.

The staff is amicable here, the services are superb, and location is wonderful just off the Toshougu temple and the Shinkyo Bridget and the downstairs restaurant which was like a Denny's in the States. The restaurant serves wonderful Western food.

Dining delights amidst dated decor
Waking up to fine views of autumn foliage was a treat. The staff were always attentive, and the meals-a highlight of my stay! Absolutely delicious and beautifully presented.
While the dining experience was really good, the room I stayed in felt rather outdated and lacked modern charm.

The location was fine, right next to the
River and surrounded by beautiful gardens. Our room had a musty odor that was hard to ignore, which marred an otherwise fantastic stay. Despite this, the attentive staff was nice.

Our family had a lovely time here! The super nice team, even sending my son's plush toy to our next stop, and we really enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful garden and warm onsen. The Wi-Fi could be a bit spotty, but overall, it was a fantastic stay 😊

The historic charm of this place is undeniable, with a fascinating ambiance that whispers secrets of a bygone era. Spacious rooms, especially in the annex, provide a cozy retreat with unique quirks like rusted steam radiators that add to the character.
The dining experience leaned heavily on set meals that tended to be pricey, and options outside, like the specialty restaurants nearby, closed rather early. While the older rooms boast history, they desperately need modern updates. Furnishings show age as do the tiny bathrooms with limited space for toiletries.

The Kanaya Hotel serves up a good breakfast, showcasing local flavors, made my taste buds dance! The gorgeous dining room and the classy ambiance only added to the experience. I also loved the historical charm and fantastic location, just a hop away from Nikko's fine shrines!
While the rooms had a touch of vintage charm, they felt a bit tired. Some modern updates wouldn't hurt, but the attentive staff helped ease the sting.
